We’re delighted to announce that Anna Starkey has been awarded Spectroscope’s artist residency at East Quay, Watchet. Anna will spend time there developing their practice, followed by a work in progress sharing event in 2027.
“I’m excited by East Quay as a liminal space between sea and land, where high and low tides meet geological deep time.”
Anna Starkey
Anna is a multidisciplinary artist and writer exploring ideas across art and science. Drawing on their physics background and experience of chronic illness, their practice explores time, collective curiosity and imagination.
Their work includes digital collage reimagining portraits of women in the history of science, and poetry shortlisted for the Disabled Poets Prize’s Best Unpublished Pamphlet in 2024. Formerly Creative Director of We the Curious in Bristol, Anna has also worked at the Science Museum and the History of Science Museum in Oxford.
East Quay is an arts centre on Watchet’s harbour in Somerset, home to contemporary galleries, artist studios and spaces to stay.
Anna’s residency is part of Spectroscope’s wider programme supporting deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists in the South West, creating space to experiment, take creative risks and shape the cultural spaces around them.
